Stift Börstel

Börstel Abbey is a former Cistercian monastery that has been home to an ecumenically staffed abbey chapter for almost 400 years. The free-world monastery is located in the middle of the forest on the Berge - Herzlake road, on the northern edge of the Osnabrück district. According to the old tradition of the Cistercians, the nearest village is still an hour's walk away.

The special spiritual aura of the early Gothic brick church with the adjoining medieval monastery buildings embraces every visitor who approaches the immunity of the monastery on foot from the parking lot on the country road.

The peace and quiet that spreads out allows one to sense something of the spirit and life of monastic seclusion, as well as the prayers spoken and sung in it daily for nearly 800 years to this day.

The monastery's spiritual community lives and works on the monastery grounds.
