When I first joined the Navy in the late 1960's I was trained as a signalman........and in those days we had to make and repair our own flags.......so I was taught to use a sewing machine! It was nowhere near as modern as this one though and was powered by foot pedals.

oh yes, I know them too, my grandmother had a 'Singer'. oh yes, I know them too, my grandmother had a 'Singer'. It was a 'retractable' sewing machine, i.e. you could fold the sewing machine down/inwards - then you had a small table.

Our's were a little bit like the Singer, but larger and a bit more industrial looking. I can't remember the make. I certainly couldn't use a modern sewing machine, but my wife has a couple and uses them quite a bit.

That's quite some machine, is it yours, if so do you do fantastic picture embroidery? I recently saw an exhibition of machine embroidery it was incredible!

:-))) ich könnte es machen, aber mir fehlt die Geduld und die Zeit. Früher, als ich jung war habe ich Kleider entworfen und genäht. - Jetzt sind es nur noch Änderungen und Reparaturen für den Hausgebrauch :-)

Dear Isabel,
now you can see my work, how and what I used the stitches for. It took quite some time to make the pants old/new again.
But putting together the photo collage today and then putting all the pips and text under it was just as long work :-))))))

Ich bin zwar technisch nicht unbegabt, die Geheimnisse der Tasten einer Nähmaschine erschließen sich allerdings nur einer Frau ;-)
