Vilkovo is a small city located on green islands in the Danube Delta. The town was founded back in 1746 and at that time was called the village of Lipovansky. It was inhabited by Lipovans - Old Believers who fled from the persecution of the adherents of Patriarch Nikon, and the Cossacks who moved here after the destruction of the Zaporozhye Sich by Empress Catherine II.
The history of the emergence of Vilkovo partially resembles the history of the emergence of Venice.
The main feature of the city is that most of it is built on water: instead of streets, there are canals (eriks), and instead of gondolas, there are wooden boats. Each family has a boat - this is the main transport in the area. Wooden bridges are thrown across the canals, which, if necessary, turn into "drawbridges" if cargo is going along the canal. Throughout Vilkovo, there are 46 km of canals, 72 islands and 1,500 boats. Currently, about 9000 people live here.

Sometimes Vilkovo is called the Ukrainian Venice, or the Venice of the Danube :)
