Were these called a char-a banc here? I'm pretty sure this is the vehicle called a char-a-banc in England.

I've heard the term char-a banc before, but I'm not sure if it was used in the states, even though the vehicles look like they're pretty much the same. I've always wondered how safe they were with so many people riding together like that--and without seatbelts.
