A tiny spider, an Araniella sp and possibly a juvenile female, the colouration is unusual and I'm waiting for an expert opinion as to which species it actually is. Taken Shrewsbury, Shropshire, April 2022.

A nymph of the Ant Damsel Bug (Himacerus mirmicoides) that in its early stages really does do an excellent job mimicking a black ant, certainly fooled me when I first spotted it. They seem to be quite common in my garden occurring on an ornamental hawthorn tree. Shrewsbury, Shropshire, April 2022.

Vapourer Moth (Orgyia antiqua) eggs laid on the female moths cocoon in a crevice in the bark of an Oak tree. Shrewsbury, Shropsire, March 2022. The female Vapourer is wingless but produces strong feromones that attract the attractive, day flying male moths to them. Once they have mated the female lays her eggs on the surface of the cocoon she pupated in earlier in the summer. The eggs overwinter exposed to the elements and usually hatch late March-April time depending on the weather. The tiny young caterpillars are then dispersed by the wind to hopefully somewhere that they can find a suitable food plant for them to feed upon. This is an in camera stack of fifteen images.

A tiny geometrid caterpillar rears its head from an ageratum flower on which its feeding on in my garden. I think its the larva of the Wormwood Pug moth, the only real way to be sure would be to rear it through to adulthood so the moth could be identified more easily.
