Landmannalaugar
The colourful rhyolitic mountains at Landmannalaugar are part of Torfajökull central volcano. This is the largest area of rhyolite in Iceland which is otherwise predominantly basalt.

Danke, Lutz! So bunt wird's, wenn das Zeugs lange in einer Magmakammer rumsitzt, bevor es explosiv ausbricht;-)
Und ich hab extra gewartet, bis die Wandergruppe überm Berg verschwunden war und nur noch die die 2 Leutchens da waren;-) Der große Rest trieb sich am Campingplatz und in den heißen Quellen rum- Wetter war schließlich schlecht....

Es ist für isländische Verhältniss so außergewöhnlich bunt! Das Hochland sonst ist ja eher eine Studie in schwarz-grau:-)

Thanx.-) We didn't go up these mountains but into a gorge to the right. Unfortunately the weather was rather miserable and grey, the colours can be much brighter. We had rain but no rainbows;-)
