Also das weiß ich zufällig, das ist nämlich mein Leihauto ;-)) Und ich kann mich noch genau erinnern, dass ich den Autospuren dorthin folgte, aber offenbar waren das 4WD's. Ich kam dann fast nicht mehr heraus aus dem Lavaschutt. Da war überhaupt nichts los damals.

It takes a while to develop enough soil for anything to take root! Basalt flows a few thousand years old can look as barren as though they erupted yesterday. One of the main mechanisms for soil formation is just windblown dirt, which slowly fills in the jagged surfaces, and that takes a while. Of course, once soils and plants have become established erosion proceeds faster.
