There are several rivers named 'Avon'. The name is derived from the Welsh word for river, 'afon'. The river in this picture is the Bristol, or Lower, Avon.

Just where in Chippenham ? ...
(I used to live there, but I'm not sure I would recognise the place now as I know it has changed a lot - They knocked the old grammar school down, for example.)

The photograph was taken from the Avon river bank a bit downstream from the town bridge. This area used to be a market yard behind the Neeld Hall. It is now a retail arcade called Borough Parade. The building in the distance on the opposite bank is the old Nestles factory, now converted to offices etc.
