The Locomotive

Thank you. More than two months after taking this photograph - and preferring others from the same outing - I saw things I had initially overlooked: boxy shapes, a crowd of verticals to the left, two strong red horizontals, one of which (the signal) was matched by a similar signal pointing in the opposite direction in the distance. Then I noticed the visual balance of the two warning signs, one in the centre foreground and one more distant over on the right. I cropped off some uninteresting scenery to the right-hand side whilst still retaining the vanishing perspective provided by the rail tracks. With some difficulty I emphasised the copious steam issuing from the locomotive - film stock would have captured more of this feature, and perhaps one day I will see if RAW capture is worthwhile, and abandon my belief that JPG format is acceptable. And 'buddy', who looks like a cowman taking his beast to be milked, adds an interesting dimension, as you have observed.
I am becoming more analytical. It must be your influence.
