En Route to West Kennet Long Barrow

En Route to West Kennet Long Barrow
One Sunday I took a notion to walk from the National Trust's car park at Avebury to West Kennet Long Barrow. The first section of the walk is alongside the beginning of the River Kennet approaching Silbury Hill. The next section is crossing the Great West Road and following this footpath to the Barrow. Of the many photographs I took both going and returning, this is the one I like to gaze at most. I have no idea why that is.

It's such an inviting image, expansive in effect.

Thanks very much. Maybe the tree providing a 'frame' also helps make it an interesting picture. However, if you stood on the spot where the photograph was made, you might conclude there was nothing much remarkable about the scene in general.

I suppose it's one of the things a photograph can do: bring back a sense of place and time by way of an incidental or unremarkable image.

I think what you say is true, although I wonder if the sense of place and time in this particular case relates to the same place and time of the photograph. I think often a picture, or a smell, evokes some other more remote memory.
