Co-op Beige

'When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.'
So wrote Jenny Joseph. But what of the legions who favour beige and white? The cream caps with the delicate tracery around the headband; the open-lattice cream shoes; the pale off-white shirt; the unripe wheat-coloured trousers? And the matching brown accessories - but pale, apologetic brown, not down-in-the-dirt brown, not chocolate brown, just .. creamy brown. Leave the elderly alone to enjoy an autumn of beige.
