Wow, I learned something new today! A very clever way to keep out the things that damage the path while letting hikers through. A great shot, Peter (a belated HFF)!

This type of stile is getting more common I expect it is considered more accessible, they have been used in stone walls for many years

Hey, that's really cool! I have never seen that sort of restricted entrance before, though I have seen plenty of similar ones. Nice workmanship for sure and good for them to do it. I am afraid that it is the few that ruin it for the rest of us in so many regards. Disrespectful riders of all types ruin so many things. But so do people...by walking off-trail and taking "short cuts" into fragile terrain, erosion is a horrible problem. We have the Upper and Lower Table Rocks nearby that have many places blocked off to keep erosion down. Classes of school kids (and disrespectful adults) will go around or over the barriers anyway and it's just so infuriating.
