This was running on compressed air during our visit. Majestic !
Built in 1893 as the second or south engine at Addington [Croydon] by Glenfield & Kennedy of Kilmarnock, as a mirrored pair to the original Easton, Anderson & Goolden {sp ?}.
Pumping capacity 1.5 million gallons of water a day at 72 gallons per stroke, using 4 tons of coal. The engine weighs 100 tons, the flywheel is 18ft in diameter.
Donated by Thames Water, which was arranged by the late George Rickard [the driver at Addington] who restarted it after installation at Strumpshaw. His family still maintain and run the engine.
