cvd - comparing 2020 and 2021

cvd - comparing 2020 and 2021
Comparing the case, hospitalisation and death rates for 2021 with 2020.
In the second half of 2020 the UK was in the throes of the second wave ['Kent' variant] with restrictions leading into a lockdown during November. During December 2020 the initial shots of the vaccine rollout were given, followed by a much stricter lockdown in early 2021.
In the third quarter of 2021, the UK still had a high case rate from the third wave ['Indian' variant] but the vaccine rollout in the first half of 2021 meant that much of the population were benefiting from sufficient protection against illness serious enough to requite hospitalisation and death to greatly reduce these outcomes.

More recent data is that by early October, the hospital admissions and daily deaths were showing signs of having peaked, although the daily new cases were still much higher than the same time in 2020.
