Intermittent Kiln

Intermittent Kiln
Intermittent limekilns don't come much better than this fine example hidden away in woodland in the High Peak parish of Middleton and Smerrill. It is so good that you could almost start it burning again tomorrow even though it may well have been abandoned for two hundred years. The tunnel is for draughting the kiln as the burned lime was removed out of the top of the pot after a section of the bowl had been removed.
