Taken in 2017, but now GONE!
I loved this beautiful old barn! I had wanted to find it for a number of years after coming across a photo somewhere on the Internet. One day, a friend happened to post a photo of an old barn and it turned out to be the very barn that I hadn't yet found. Without being asked, he told me exactly where it was. I had been out looking for it just a few days before and must have missed it by just one road.
Not all that long ago, he told me that he had been out there, talking with a man on the property. There was a backhoe, ready and waiting to tear down this barn and today, I finally got out there to check if the barn was still standing. Sadly, all I found was levelled ground; no sign that a barn had been there. I discovered that the old house next door had also been torn down ... sigh. The last time I had been to this spot, with the barn still standing, was 12 October 2018. I'm not sure, but I believe that vandals were a reason for removing the structures. Such a sad loss - for myself and for various other photographers.
Feeling disappointed and 'down', I continued my drive around some of the back roads east of the city, including travelling a few unfamiliar roads. I thought I might just come across a Snowy Owl somewhere, but all I saw were Magpies and Ravens. Made me feel very grateful for having found three Snowies the other day! It was definitely more of a barn day.
Far out in the middle of a huge field, a Coyote paused, gave a pounce into the air and caught an unlucky Meadow Vole for a late breakfast. It had been a long, long time since I saw a Coyote actually hunting.
Yet again, our weather was beautiful today, which made it seem a shame to stay home. After the dreadful, very early start to this winter, I'm sure everyone appreciates this milder weather.
