The olden days
Five Swans a-swimming
Here comes the rain
Layers and stripes
Fields of golden stubble
A frosty prairie view
The only one
White beauty
When the clouds roll in
Fancy silo with stairs
The Famous Five from a distance
A sky filled with clouds
Rolling hills and distant peaks
Soothing simplicity
Clouds, reflected
Old barn in winter
An old barn in winter
A little eye-catcher
Lapland Longspur? No, a female Red-winged Blackbi…
One of my favourite barns
Meadow Vole for a tasty snack
Lying on a bed of hoarfrost
Stubble pattern
Rural decay
Old house next to metal silo
New "barn", Granary Road
A sunrise sky that lasted till sunset
Under a Chinook arch
King of silos
Two male Snowy Owls in the same field
You never know where you'll see a Snowy Owl
Before winter arrived
A white world
Prairie life in winter
When the world turns white
Disappearing into nothingness
Hoar frost tree and vanishing fields
Short-eared Owl

The day before Christmas
Follow the lines
Sunrise over the mountains
Sunrise pink
Zoomed to the max

Some white patches have eyes : )
An early Christmas present, 2013

Old prairie homestead
The beauty of golden stubble
Old and new on the prairies
A beautiful setting
Wide open spaces that go on forever
Stripes of colour
Fun in the sun
Christmas Eve day on the prairies
Light through the storm clouds
The row of five
Swans galore
Three in a row
In a farmer's field
Stubble stripes
Prairie drama

Springtime on the prairie
On 14 April 2014, my youngest daughter and I spent the day driving some of the backroads SE of Calgary. Some of the roads were familiar to me, and others were new territory. This photo was zoomed in, which meant that the Rocky Mountains in the background look closer than they really are. "Heat wave" distortion and haze make the old barn and beyond look blurry (certainly on a 24" monitor), but I thought it was still a nice rural scene.
It's 9C this morning, 23 April 2014, getting up to 12C this afternoon. It actually rained yesterday evening, which felt a little strange after getting all our precipitation in the form of snow the last seven months. More rain in the forecast for this afternoon, then a sunny day tomorrow, followed by two days of mixed precipitation or snow. In other words, a typical April here, where we keep thinking that spring may have finally arrived, only to have it snow again. This happens over and over in this month.
