Shield Bug

Shield Bug
A tiny Shield Bug found on the head of a grass in Clearwater Park, off HIghway 8.

I was out walking at Mallard Point, east end of Fish Creek Park, for about three hours this morning, watching and listening for birds. We enjoyed watching at least three Osprey flying along the Bow River and were lucky to see one of them dive and catch a large fish. One of them perched very high up in a tall tree and I was able to get some shots from close to the tree on the return walk. There was even a small patch of blue sky while I was doing this and then the sky went back to its usual overcast colour. I announced to my friends that I was going to take the other path back to the parking lot because I wanted to check for fungi on any fallen logs - did find two or three, including one sweet one. From there, I went straight to an area that I had walked in a few days ago, covered in wood chips. I had found a few mushrooms there, but this time I found what I was hoping for - Bird's-nest Fungi. We are usually so thrilled when, on the rare occasion, we do find a cluster of three or four tiny "nests", but this afternoon I saw hundreds, LOL!!! Such a dull day that I don't know yet if any of my photos have turned out. Guess I will download them shortly, keeping my fingers tightly crossed.
