Colour Harmony

Colour Harmony
Explored! Thank you very much :-)

SATURDAY SELF-CHALLENGE
28 SEPTEMBER 2019
HARMONY

I found this challenge very difficult and after a lot of trial and error I decided to try colour harmony :-)

The colour wheel was invented in 1666 by Isaac Newton, who mapped the colour spectrum onto a circle. The colour wheel is the basis of colour theory, because it shows the relationship between colours. Colours that look good together are called a colour harmony. You can use a colour wheel to find colour harmonies by using the rules of colour combinations. Colour combinations determine the relative positions of different colours in order to find colours that create a pleasing effect.

There are two types of colour wheel. The RYB or red, yellow, blue colour wheel is typically used by artists. Then there is the RGB, or red, green and blue colour wheel, which is designed for online use.

There are 'Complementary Colours' that are opposite each other on the colour wheel.

There are 'Analogous Colours' that are next to each other on the colour wheel.
There is a 'Triadic Colour Scheme' that uses colours that are evenly spaced around the colour wheel.

There is the 'Split-Complementary Colour Scheme' that is a variation of the 'Complementary Colour Scheme'. In addition to the base colour, it uses the two colours adjacent to its complement.

There is the 'Rectangle or Tetradic Colour Scheme' that uses four colours arranged into two complementary pairs.

Then there is the 'Square Colour Scheme' that is similar to the 'Rectangle' one, but with all four colours spaced evenly around the colour circle.

Now, of course, I knew all of this :-) …................Well, okay, I didn't really know much if any of this. I got it all from the Internet :-))

For my photo I decided to use Velcro Fasteners and attempted to use the 'Square Colour Scheme'. This 'Colour Scheme' gave me red, blue, green (not quite the order of my colours!) and yellow-orange! But, I didn't have a Velcro Fastener in yellow-orange. Therefore, yellow it is :-))

And, for 'Sight and Sound' I have chosen "Colours of My Life" by The Seekers.

Oh Roger, this is great! What a fun idea and the song goes so well with it too. You image is harmonious and brilliant.

Of course, I was thinking as I read the information "Gee, he knows everything about colour that I know." ;-)) Just kidding. It's all new news to me too and something I've always wanted to learn more about but just haven't taken the time. So thank you for this. :)

Very colourful and effective image, with interesting background information, Roger. (Though I read it all, I wouldn't pass a test on that)! Great to hear the Seekers and Judith Durham's distinctive voice.
