Sushi Heaven: Cucumber Slices with Ginger in the Background

[best appreciated at full size against black] My favorite food is sushi, and going to a sushi restaurant is a very special treat. A couple of days after I got my Canon 5D Mark II, we stopped at this restaurant on the way home from our shoot at Tunnel 13. I brought my camera in and had a wonderful time with the 100mm macro lens. In the next week or so, I'll be posting pictures from this visit! I hope you enjoy them! This image was taken in November, 2011.

Edamame

[best appreciated at full size against black] One of the most popular appetizers at a sushi restaurant is called edemame, which is the Japanese word for soybean! These tasty treats are boiled in salted water and then served with the shell, either hot or cold depending on the restaurant. Use your fingers to pop the tasty soybean out of the shell and into your mouth, but aim carefully! I have accidentally popped beans across the table, through the air and onto the floor before! :D :D :D This image was taken in November, 2011.

Wakame (Seaweed) Salad

[best appreciated at full size against black] I have my husband to thank for introducing me to sushi in a way that didn't have me running for my life. Raw fish? SEAWEED? REALLY?? People EAT that? And...they...LIKE IT? SERIOUSLY? Yes! Seriously!! Wakame salad was something I was very hesitant to try because it looks slimy and couldn't believe it would be good. But it's amazing...crunchy, tasty flavors of zesty rice vinegar with oil, sesame seeds and many lovely seasonings, all combining together into a mouthful of deliciousness that is incredible! Once I tried it, wakame salad became an instant favorite! YUM!!! I have two other images uploaded today that I hope you'll take a look at! Thanks to all of you who have visited and have left comments and favorites! I try to go to all of your pages within a day or two and is a highlight for me to see your beautiful photography! :) This image was taken in November, 2011.

Yummy, Yummy Sushi

[best appreciated at full size against black] When Steve and I go out for sushi, our "usual" order includes the following: seaweed salad (picture soon!), edamame or miso soup, spicy scallop handroll, hamachi sashimi, and a couple of specialty rolls. Here is another roll that we shared, and it was just as delectable as it looked, filled with spicy scallops and topped with a special type of tuna with a lovely sauce drizzled over it. Mmmmmmm....

Luscious Sushi Roll

[best appreciated at full size against black] Here is another image from the sushi restaurant that Steve and I visited back in November...mmmmmm....I haven't had any sushi for about three or four weeks now and I would REALLY love some!!! This roll has spicy tuna and crab inside, wrapped in seaweed with rice, and topped with eel and glazed with a special sauce, sprinkled with tiny fish eggs, garnished with green onion. Tasty Sprouts

[best appreciated at full size against black] One of the most special things about eating at a Japanese restaurant is the presentation of the food. Everything served has something special to appreciate about it. On this sushi roll are beautiful green sprouts, which, by the way, taste as wonderful as they look! Lemon in a Glass of Ice Water

[best appreciated at full size against black] Macro lenses are amazing things, aren't they? You can focus on something that, at a normal view, looks like nothing at all, but with a macro lens can suddenly become fascinating! Here we have a slice of lemon floating on my glass of icewater! I hope you like it! This image was taken in November, 2011.

Abtract: Ice Against Side of Plastic Cup

[best appreciated at full size against black] Even before I knew what this word meant, I've appreciated and marvelled over abstracts. Macro images are wonderful for capturing very interesting abstracts, and if you've been visiting my stream for a while, you'll know that I absolutely love getting so close to a subject that one must try very hard sometimes to figure out what it is that I'm taking a picture of. The other day I showed an image of lemon floating on top of a glass of ice water. Here is the side of the glass with ice pressed against the side of the cup! This image was taken in November, 2011.

Japanese Restaurant: Soy Sauce Still Life

[best appreciated at full size against black] When you go to most Asian restaurants, you will notice that the usual condiment for flavoring a dish at the table is soy sauce, a very salty liquid made from fermented soybeans, which has the consistency of water and it has a unique flavor which I love. While Steve and I were waiting for our order to be prepared, I had fun taking some pictures with my camera. Without moving a thing, this grouping of soy sauce, salt and pepper sitting on the table next to the frosted-glass window made a cool still life! This image was taken in November, 2011.
