How many times have you gone looking for mushrooms and you just can't find them?! It can be so difficult to spot these little guys, can't it?! I went up to our ridgeline the other day, fully expecting to find lots of mushrooms like I had a couple of weeks ago. There was NOTHING! The most I found was a poor, dried up mushroom which happily, exists forever as an image ( www.flickr.com/photos/sfhipchick/6852753819/in/photostream/ ) However, as I was heading back home with a sad heart, I saw a rotting stump and thought it was worth investigating. TA-DAH!!! Not only one, but two, and they look like a happy couple, don't they?!

Mushroom finding tip! Mushrooms are often found growing out of rotting stumps and logs, but be sure to look very carefully on all sides, above and below, and take a peek inside any crevices or holes. I can't emphasize this enough!! Once, I was looking at a stump and found a little mushroom. I happily got my pictures and moved on, but I pointed out the mushroom to Steve so he could take pictures too. A moment later, he called out, "Hey, did you see these over here??" I had only looked at the end of the log and on one side. On the other side, there were four or five enchanting little mushrooms in pairs and hiding in little crevices...and I totally missed them! I've uploaded one other picture today and I hope you'll visit it too!
