Boisterous Cherry-Headed Conure

Boisterous Cherry-Headed Conure
There were many species of parrots at Chris Biro's Pirate's Parrot Show and almost all of them had free-flight privileges! (We saw the show back in July) Here is a rambunctious Cherry-Headed Conure hanging out on a cable and having a great time! I watched it fly over and land near the bottom and then saw it climb about 15 feet to the top! So cute!

Cherry-Headed Conures are also known as Red-Masked Parakeets, and are native to Equador and Peru. They were classified as Near Threatened in 1994 due to capture for the pet trade. However, bans on exporting parrots has helped a lot and they are expected to recover. Escaped birds have established feral populations in many areas of California (Including San Francisco), and also in Florida, Mexico and Spain.

If you would like to know more about this boisterous conure, Wiki has a page here: Wiki: Cherry-Headed Conure
