Ahoy, Mateys!

Ahoy, Mateys!
This is a fun shot of the ship's mast at the Pirate's Parrot Show, complete with pirate flag and...a flock of boisterous Sun Conures! It was so much fun watching them fly around like a bunch of holligans! They really are very mischievous little guys and so cute and pretty!

The Sun Conure is considered to be one of the most beautiful small parrots, and is native to northeastern South America. It is endangered in the wild, due to habitat loss and trapping for the pet trade. Banning bird exports has helped somewhat, but it is only seldom seen in its previous ranges. This bird, however, is one of the most common small parrots offered for sale in pet stores, and unfortunately, due to the loud volume of any Aritinga conure, these are also found in enormous quantities in bid rescue facilities. :( (The Sun Conures owned by Chris are all rescue birds! :D)

If you would like to know more about this beautiful conure, Wiki has a page here: Wiki: Sun Conure (Sun Parakeet)
