Mt. Hood

Mt. Hood
View eastward from the Portland (Oregon) Aerial Tram. Mt. Hood is one of the more famous Cascade stratovolcanoes. It would be more spectacular if it weren't shrouded by cloud! It's a dangerous volcano and Portland is at risk.

It _is_ big and close--the fact that the edifice isn't eroded away to a nubbin shows that it's still active. Probably _not_ the best location for a metropolis--

Quite a few other cities come to mind in that regard. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near Naples...

Seattle, Tokyo, ... Mt. Fuji is another extremely dangerous volcano, which traditional Japanese don't like to hear.

People like to forget, especially when all has been quiet for a while. Anyone reminding them of the danger is accused of scaremongering.
