From 1839-1846 he was engaged at the “Opernhaus von Leipzig”. In 1846 he was engaged at the “Hofoper von München”; an engagement that lasted over 40 years. In 1869 he created the role of Wotan in Wagner’s “Das Rheingold”. In 1882 –at the “Festspielen von Bayreuth”- he created the role of Titurel in Wagner’s “Parsifal”. In 1887 he became a Honorary Member of the Munich Hofoper and in 1889 he retired from the stage.
Four of his children also had an important singing career: Maria Kindermann at the “Hoftheater von Kassel”, Franziska Kindermann at Munich, August Kindermann Jr. at the “Hoftheater von Weimar” and Hedwig Reicher-Kindermann (1853-1883) who acquired the greatest fame but died very young.
