Adolf Robinson by Koch

Adolf Robinson (1834-1920); Austrian baritone.
In 1857 he made his debut at the “Stadttheater von Olmütz” as Carlo in Verdi's “Ernani”. Until 1862 he was engaged at Graz and from then on at Berlin, Prague, Hamburg, Breslau and Bremen. He made 4 tours to the USA. In 1886 he performed the role of Kurwenal in the American première of Tristan and Isolde and in 1888 he sang the role of Gunther in the American première of Wagner’s “Götterdämmerung” at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. In the USA he made guest appearances at Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Cincinnati, St. Louis and San Francisco. From 1892 he lived at Brno where he occasionally made guest appearances at the local Opera. He was also working as a voice teacher and his most famous pupils were Leo Slezak, Friedrich Schorr, Joseph Schwarz and Alexander Kirchner. He was married to Leonore Hahn Edle von Hahnenheim (1844-1918), also a famous opera singer. Their two daughters also had singing careers: Ada von Westhofen-Robinson (1878–1914) and Louise Robinson (1884–1934).
