Der mystische „Feenwald“ Fanal ist im Nordwesten der Insel Madeira zu finden. Der Lorbeerwald, auch Laurisilva genannt, besteht aus Jahrhunderte alten moosüberwachsenen Bäumen und ist das größte Waldgebiet dieser Art auf der Insel. Seit 1999 ist der portugiesische Lorbeerwald UNESCO-Weltnaturerbe.
