'Ravensdale cottages' .. Derbyshire UK.

'Ravensdale cottages'  .. Derbyshire UK.
Another view of the Cottages at Ravensdale - this one from May 2018 showing the full street from end to end and the only vehicle that I have ever seen down there - an old 'MG' Also illustrating the towering rocky outcrop valley in which the street is sited. Believed to be built from 1823 and used by lead miners and their families.

I know it's not granite but the cliffs remind me of the granite cliffs of La Sierra de La Cabrera!

I say Andy... I was going to leap in and say ''Been there''... but looking on G/E ours was 'La Calobra' in Majorca.
Hang on.. you will know this... is the correct term, ''In'' ? or ''On'' a given island.. I'm never sure of that.
Cheers from Dave.

There are a few La Cabreras in Spain as well, which causes confusion but my area, although the smallest, is the best known being so close to Madrid.
Your question;
It depends on the context but 'in' is usual for geographical names or areas. My Spanish students think this is very funny. I say to them: 'I like walking in the mountains'. To them, 'on' is more logical. How can you walk 'in' (meaning 'inside') the mountains?
On is used for 'on an island' , if the island is unnamed,
So 'there's no one living on the island, it's uninhabited'
but, 'they live in Majorca'
People do get these mixed up though!
Hope that helps!

Cheers Pat'... yes this one street - and there is nothing more -.. is totally hidden away in the middle of woodland.. I believe built around 1823 for the miners and mill workers around the area..
