Busy Blackbird

Busy Blackbird
As restrictions are in place in view of Covid-19, I have taken my camera with me on my allowed walk for exercise. All the recent photos have been within walking distance from home.

Came across this female Blackbird nest gathering. Not sure which one of us was the more surprised

Jeff Farley has particularly liked this photo

I am having quiet a relationship with one of these, almost taking grapes from my fingers and helping me in the garden with a hoe, the male stands very close to the blade waiting for me to turn the top soil then he dives in grabbing whatever is uncovered. I shall miss him when the young fledge in a few days time.

Wow, you are lucky there indeed Maurice. I startled this female as I turned the corner looking fort something else entirely. She was there for seconds only but I was lucky, the next shot was a blur of tail feathers!

Enjoy the garden in this fine weather, although up here in the Lothians there is still a bit of a bite in the wind.

A great catch here Elaine. I hope she has more luck than our harden nesting blackbirds -beset -like last year -by killer magpies!

Keep safe. Herb

Thanks Herb,

The Magpies are horrible (I know they have young too) but they took all the fledglings and the distress of the blackbirds trying to chase them off was terrible. Nature is beautiful but cruel too!
