Italy, 2011. Top right is in St. Peter's Basilica, Pope Somedody-or-other. The other two are taken from a corridor window in the Vatican Museum.

Thank you - there is so much to see that it's hard to take it in!

Corridor - or similar (f.i. bathroom) - windows offer most of the time the best views and subjects. No baroque, no propper tiny white angels, no gold all over the place. Well done!

Interesting observation, Leon! Honestly, I was overwhelmed by all the gorgeous intensity, sometimes, and found modest things a relaxing break.

The truth is, most of my photos in Italy - especially in the Vatican - were terrible. New camera, no clue how to use it. Touring it was an ordeal, too. I would never again be in a tour group for anything "once in a lifetime," because you get yanked through the place at full speed by the guide. It was most distressing! I didn't even get a full look at (much less a thought about) glorious things like the Bernini Altar, Michelangelo's Pieta and, most of all, the Sistine Chapel. Well, I'll never get back...but, so grateful to have been there at all.

Unfortunately, I didn't really have a choice. I was there courtesy of Google, because the annual GE moderators' trip was there and everything arranged/prepaid. There was no time to go off on my own very much, due to meetings with various Google Earth staff. I spent an extra week so I could go to Florence and Siena on my own, though - thank goodness I did that!

Yes, it was nice to catch a glimpse of unfamiliar things, too! Thank you, Patrick.
