1956 GMC Suburban Carrier

1956 GMC Suburban Carrier
An interesting design. I suppose that sticking a work-truck front onto a car back - and the name of the model - was meant to appeal to suburban dads rather than loggers and farmers. Anyway, it's cool!

John FitzGerald, autofantasia, , kiiti and 2 other people have particularly liked this photo

Excellent, even down to the glow off the front bumpers!

Thanks! This truck, and the blue '54, I would happily drive right now!

Hahaha - well, I have logging on my dad's side and cattle ranching on my mom's. So, there you are!

My earliest positive memories of time with my father were of riding around to jobs (he was a plumber when he worked) in a beat-up 1940's International Harvester with a windshield that pushed out on the bottom for ventilation, a very bouncy ride, a crank for when the battery couldn't start it, and the constant smell of oil and tools. Just found a webpage for a 1948 model that looks similar to what I remember, though his was dark blue: jalopnik.com/346831/1948-international-harvester-kb-2-pickup-truck

Aw, that's great! Old Internationals are almost as common as Chevys and Fords around here. My dad, a logger, had an oxidized red 1949-ish Chevy truck. I think he drove it until about 1961. I don't specifically remember riding in it, but my brothers probably do. Exactly like this: www.truck-images.com/images/old-custom-1949-chevy-3100-trucks-thumb.jpg

Ah, the smell of oil and tools! Or, Cat grease, dirt and logs, for me. ; )

Even just writing that comment I could sense that smell, very much the recall of when work went actually exerting energy.

If it's possible to have an elegant pickup truck, this is it. Thanks, Keith!
