Weston-Super-Mare – The Grand Pier

Weston-Super-Mare – The Grand Pier
Another week by the sea takes me for a night to Somerset’s Weston-S-Mare’s promenade in rather dodgy weather. Here we see its famous Grand Pier which for us was unfortunately closed. Originally built in 1905 it was damaged by fire in 2008 and its superstructure repaired and re-opened in 2010.
Of course for me, I am attracted by the stormy light here and some minutes later had to run for cover.

Enjoy full screen.

Thanks Toz, nice to be back here with you again. A fine trip with very mixed weather. Only really local area explored as we did not know the extent of the fuel problems. Anyway, glad you liked this starter for the weeks trip.

You are so kind Judite. We only had a very short time here but what we saw was very interesting, perhaps even more so in this weather. Very happy that you enjoyed this one.

Good to see you back Herb................and with such a super shot...........not that I would have expected anything else from you:-)

Despite the stormy looking skies (or perhaps because of them) the light is gorgeous, especially where it's reflected off the wet sand and water. The pier looks quite magnificent (from this distance anyway) and the detail you've captured is superb.

Beautifully composed and taken sir!

Nice to be back Keith. A super week on another of our coast now gone. This light and weather although cold, windy and broody provided a couple of nice atmospheric captures that you know I enjoy. After posting this, I could see it was not exactly straight but too late - I could not change it. Ah well.

Thanks for this Rosa. I think you will know Somerset and even Weston. This pier looked good in this light and We would have liked to explore it closer but it was closed. Perhaps we were too late, it being past 4pm on a Thursday. The real jewel we did not see till it was raining heavy and the light fading, an hour or so later; that being the old pier of Birnbeck. Anyway great that you enjoyed this.

Cheers, Herb

Oh yes the old Birnbeck Pier is worth seeing. I have a lovely old postcard of it from the Victorian era. Although I live in Somerset, the Dorset coast is much closer than the north Somerset coast, which is why I don't get to it as often as I would like. Minehead is my favourite though.
Cheers, Rosa.

You got some real weather a bit like ours , some thing we just dont get in WA is these very low tides here is almost is no change between high and low. upper WA is a very different story 11m tides.

Herb Riddle club has replied to Steve Paxton club
Yes, we got pretty wet some minutes after taking this. The tides around here vary from 2 to 5 metres each day so it is not good to stay put out on the sands in low tide.
