Towards the Mentheith Hills from the Duke’s Pass.

Towards the Mentheith Hills from the Duke’s Pass.
Only a short drive out of Aberfoye is a winding high valley called the ‘Dukes Pass’. We are climbing then traversing its left side in a 5-7 mile outing by foot with a picnic, after setting off from the ‘David Marshall Lodge visitors centre. ~ Its cold up here in the strong cool winds, seemingly bringing ice and snow from the far mountain tops but it makes for a grand scene. The quiet road through the pass can just be seen here,

This popular public road, regarded as one of Britain's best drives, leads you through some of the most scenic parts of the iconic Trossachs landscape. It was originally built by the Duke of Montrose in the 19th century to improve access to his estate, and was later upgraded to accommodate the Victorian tourists drawn to the area after the publication of Sir Walter Scott's epic poem 'The Lady of the Lake' which celebrates the beauty of Loch Katrine. Loch Katrine sits at the far left end of this pass about 6.5 miles away (10km) from Aberfoyle.

Enjoy full size.

This absolutely needs to be viewed full size to fully appreciate the richness of the diverse textures and details. The cloudy sky completes this black and white landscape beautifully, in my opinion. Despite the cold, it seems your 5- 7 mile efforts were well rewarded!

Created here for full size viewing Annalia. we enjoyed this walk and a few nice photos taken with a cup of coffee and piece of cake at the special tourist centre at the end of it. Glad you enjoyed it too.

Perfectly suited to black and white..................a stark but beautiful landscape. The light is lovely - just touching the very top of the mountains and the detail you've captured, especially in the foreground is excellent.

Quality work my friend..!!

Thanks Keith. Yes, as Toz (below) also says, we don't do enough really. I did go through a spell for some years of doing mainly mono as I always liked to capture the tonal quality that mono affords. When we turned the corner of the high traverse and saw this vista we were gobsmaked. Glad you liked it.

So happy that I find another that pleases you so much Judite. I might do some more from this holiday as like you say, such landscapes do look nice in mono.

Always good to see you enjoying my landscapes Rosa. The info, I think helps to complete a picture sometimes (not that I think my photos don't stand up on their own merit). I always make my photos on here to be viewed full screen despite being advised not to, for the sake of photo and screen copying by viewers.
