Ingleton and its Viaduct

Ingleton and its Viaduct
Ingleton - an old village of true character in the North Yorkshire Dales area.

The story of the viaduct: www.forgottenrelics.co.uk/bridges/ingleton.html

The last trains went over this in 1963 and the track was lifted in 1967 - now a gas pipe sits there instead.

Nice full size.

A fab shot Herb. I love a viaduct! This reminds me of a village in Somerset, on the way to Bristol, called Pensford. Take care & have a good weekend. Rosa.

Thanks Rosa. Glad you enjoyed this. There are a few of these viaducts round still but this view is particularly pleasing. I don't know Pensford at all.

Take care and enjoy Sunday. Herb

This looks fantastic viewed large......................The light, especially where it reflects off the tiled roofs and the stonework on the viaduct is beautiful.

A superbly composed and detailed image, with a lovely old-fashioned look! Very nicely captured Herb.

A great view and a lovely shot Herb. I love the viaduct and the way the little houses nestle around the base.

Sp glad you saw in this what I too saw Carol. We have a viaduct over at Uppermill only a few miles from my home but I can never get the best place to photograph that from. I must have another go.

Take care. Herb

Super shot, this image really highlights whyat a massive structure the viaduct is when compared with the surrounding buildings.

Hi Herb,

I like this very much!!
As others have said, the slate roofs, the old streetlamp, and the lighting really make this picture!

I know the railway vanished a long time ago, but let us imagine how this would look with a steam hauled freight train crossing the viaduct, belching smoke into an already polluted atmosphere!

Best Wishes
Peter

Hi Peter. An olde Worlde capture almost. I have a mono that makes it look more authentic still but I thought this one was enough here. I did wonder as I took this, whichrailway ran on top, as the two lines that I knew, both ran some way away from here and in different directions. After reading most of the info in my intro link, and being reminded by your comment, I realise that this is another of those relic trackless lines of long ago - a great pity. As you say it must have been a sight when the steam engines tugged across. The track pulled up in 1967.

Have a good and safe week. Herb

This looks very much like the sturdy viaducts we (well, "they") have in Switzerland, two of them in my hometown for the railway leading to a tunnel. Well captured here!

Thanks Sarah. Indeed Switzerland has and had many great bridges and viaducts besides their famous tunnels. Most a memory now but thankfully some, like this, still standing and persevered.

Keep safe. Herb
