This cicada was on the inside of our gazebo. When I noticed it in late afternoon, it was just beginning to emerge from its chrysalis. Over the next hour, it emerged and inflated its wings. The movie ends when the sun had set.

Magicicada sp. I spotted this cicada with its exoskeleton on the exterior wall of my house early this morning. Millions of these are predicted to emerge in the southeastern USA this year. All individuals of this species emerge from their underground burrows every 13 years. This is the first one I saw this morning. Several more emerged later in the morning.
