I think you are correct, Maurice. The Wikipedia article says they live in parts of Asia, North America and northern South America. I remembered seeing them in this spot last autumn. When I looked, there they were.

They really are unusual. I spotted this little cluster of them several years ago, so I check the spot every autumn. When they aren't blooming, there is no evidence they are there.
