Near the left edge is an unidentified star. About 1 Jupiter-width left of Jupiter is Io. A little further left is Ganymede. Europa and Callisto are just right of Jupiter (but I can't see them in this photo).

Yes, it's mainly a matter of trying. A tripod is essential, of course.

Thanks, Janet. Jupiter is the brightest thing in the early night sky now, so it's easy to find in the south.
