Surprise !

Surprise !
I was walking this morning when I noticed I was being watched. I think this is some type of rat snake (Pantherophis sp.).

Doerthe, Cämmerer zu Nau, Frans Schols, Fred Fouarge and 17 other people have particularly liked this photo

Wow.........that's well camouflaged..!! You did well to see it.............and get a photo!

I'd have got the shock of my life................we don't have many snakes here!

Thanks, Keith. There are lots of snakes here, and I almost always have my camera. Photos are usually difficult, because the snake almost always sees me before I see the snake.

What an odd place for a snake.

Thanks for the visit and comment, Esther. It rained heavily the previous night. Maybe it was trying to get out of the water.

The pattern on the right side looks like a rat snake. Great shot.

Checking out what you were going to do -- like the Red tailed Hawk did to Mr C -- Mr Hawk didn't take his eyes off Mr C until he came back inside. Mr C said "I'm too big for you" as the hawk remained perched on the chimney next door !
