Mississippi is not quite like Florida. Most lakes don't have alligators, but it is better to assume any given lake has alligators unless proven otherwise.

Eeek! I saw a photo of one yesterday in the news that had a knife sticking out of its head, swimming along big as you please. Nothing about 'gators attracts me, but that was a sad sight! I'm sure the fish & game people have trapped it by now.

Alligators are quite calm and peaceful almost all of the time.
