I imagine the new version will be what some wished for however.
Thankyou for all you are doing !
I've made this comment on the other thread too, but thought it wise to add the question/comment here as it specifically relates to the new Group section.
Thanks again
PAUL
By the way. I just used "Your history" for the first time. What a great page!!
Is that new or did I just overlook it the last 3 months?
Sven Scholz club has replied to Hans Guenter clubI needed some time to realize that "xxx weitere Beiträge" (don't know the english version, the bold link under the Group-title) shows the new fotos of one group only on the right (i missed that first. Or better: didn't see that first). Maybe a little "How it works" would be helpful to ensure that we find every "feauture" of the page to avoid that one overlooks them and cannot appreciate the functionalities.
Suggestion: i'd LOVE to have the same optional views for the foto-stream like the ones i have in other stream-pages (thumbs, small, big)
If you select it then _just_ displaying the groups with moderating-stuff would be fine, but even without selecting it the tasks you have to do should be displayed somewhere (maybe just by adding "You have something to moderate" above of the group-display if you won´t include it inside the group-listing, but I prefer the full display of the group then).
If I click at the new group- page at a discussion-item some parts of the text aren´t visible. In my example it was the "y" from "may" and the "e" from "the":
Of course they aren´t lost because they don´t get typed in- they are clearly written. And I can see them if I click on the right pane and use the cursorkeys to scroll right (and it was possible to scroll pretty much to the right):
Well - the visible content - part have to be a little bit wider- or the part where the text is displayed have to be a little bit smaller so the whole text will be displayed without scrolling to the right (and - well - cause there wasn´t a visible horitzontal scrollbar for the right window-part...
Another suggestion to improve the ergonomy:
Another thing which I saw: My browser-window has a visible, usable dimension of - ahm - 1460x900px (I use a screen-resolution of 1920x1080px).
When I click on the new additions of a group (the photos) the newest 30 photos of the group are loaded. Without virtical scrolling it was possible to view the first 5 lines of photos (which is an amount of 25 photos). The names of the uploaders of the 5th line are just shown if the photo was a horizontal one and cutted on vertical ones, and no sixt line of photos and no page-navigation for more photos was visible without scrolling.
So the bottom of my browserwindow will look something like this:
I suggest the browsing through the new uploaded photos would be way more fun if you haven´t scroll down on every page to view the last line of photos and get the numbers which linking to the next page of new added photos. So it would be perfect if you load just 4 lines with five photos (20 photos per page in total) instead of 6 lines (with the last 5 ones visible- sometimes without the uploader, and one whole line not visible without scrolling).
Then the names of the uploader was shown on vertical photos at the last photos, too- and even the navigation to the next pages was visible without scrolling down on every photo-page.
Well, you may have some more pages to click but fewer to scroll down which was more annoying then just load 20 instead of 30 photos per page. Well, just fit for users who are surfing with a browserwindow which was (around) full-height at a 1920x1080px resolution but I suggest these are the minority.
Just my 2¢ after a few days of testing your new groups-overview-page. :o)
(to moderate it) it would show "new" once visited the next group would move up to the
top ... and so on and so on ... now ... "new" is not showing up always and the groups
do not flow up to the top as before ... not sure if this is a glitch due to the new feature.
Also, many of us have threads for members to post their photo in in small size, and
are asked to number them ... so the number runs on ... if they make a mistake, its not
possible for the admin to change it ... I appreciate that threads seem to be permalink,
but an admin I think should be able to change something like a numbering system
if that is what the thread is used for. I agree making some threads sticky would be
great.
What would be useful would be the ability to comment on a group photo from the Organize screen instead of have to get out of that and go into the group screen.
I can't say that about the beta page as I don't believe it's working in the way it's supposed to and it certainly isn't reliable in what it tells you.
If I set it to "your last login" and "groups you are administrator of only" there are no links or thumbnails displayed despite the fact I know for a fact from the old Groups page that there are new submissions I've not yet viewed. I've also found that when I click to view any so-called new' submissions the beta page flags up when I go back to the beta page it is still saying those says things are new even if I log out of ipernity altogether and come back in again.
I also don't understand why it shows nearly 80 pages of thumbnails when I'm pretty sure I've seen at least 90% of them, but that may be more because I don't understand the purpose of that particular function rather than it being a sign of any glitch or bug.
So, my own personal opinion would be don't pursue the beta page, but retain the old layout and look to enhance it by improving what it currently does.
For example: display a "NEW" icon against groups you are merely a member of rather than administrator or moderator of; allow users to sort and filter their group list alphabetically; and maybe have a feature where, if you've been away for some considerable time say on holiday, you can by the click of a button mark all "NEW" submissions as having been seen without you having to go into them all individually.
Whatever you guys decide to do I'm sure will be for the best unlike some other sites where they continually throw the baby out with the bathwater!
