Colour did arrive much later .
I worked on TV builing at school in 1948
I remember being in Putney High Street when Concorde first flew in to London and everyone stopped and looked up to see this incredible aeroplane. It was a fantastic sight and I've remembered this ever since. I've also seen it up close when it used to fly into Exeter and I was struck by how small it was, but it's engine noise wasn't small - wow talk about needing earphones to deaden the sound!!!
Although all-electronic color was introduced in the U.S. in 1953, high prices and the scarcity of color programming greatly slowed its acceptance in the marketplace. The first national color broadcast (the 1954 Tournament of Roses Parade) occurred on January 1, 1954, but during the following ten years most network broadcasts, and nearly all local programming, continued to be in black-and-white. It was not until the mid-1960s that color sets started selling in large numbers, due in part to the color transition of 1965 in which it was announced that over half of all network prime-time programming would be broadcast in color that fall. The first all-color prime-time season came just one year later.
And now we have huge TV screens that look practically like you're in the room with the person! Of course, it costs a great deal more and you can no longer just plug in the TV and you're done! Sometimes I long for those days!
