This week we’ve mostly been running around like headless chickens. There are 3 people off sick in my department, and with the workload and pressure increasing I won’t be surprised if this number increases. In the past couple of years we’ve lost a quarter of the workforce though haven’t lost the same percentage in students and workload. We lost 2 weeks of work on this site due to the ‘Circus’ and now we’re running out of time to get things done. I’ve been in early 4 times this month and had shorter lunch-breaks, just to stay on top of the work, and Thursday I was awake at 2.30am fretting about the work. But our illustrious leaders made a quick buck from the ‘Circus’ so that’s all right then.

Friday after work I upped anchor and drifted off to stay overnight at my friends to get a break from the routine. We got up early on Saturday, had croissants for breakfast (they were salty!) and went into town on someone else’s boat. It made a nice change to leave my life boat tethered elsewhere, though I’m not sure we’ll do it again. The public boat only runs once an hour, and it was expensive! We didn’t spend much money in town, and after about 2 hours we’d both had enough of the crowds and the humidity. I bought some tasty food for dinner for the Cabin Boy and myself and some dried pineapple slices – OMG I love them! We had a wonderful coffee in my favourite deli, a mooch around the shops, and mutually decided that we’d buy a traditional Cornish pasty for lunch and make our escape. Halfway home a drunk tried to join our little party, had no money for fare, and wouldn’t get off the boat. The driver turned off the engine and just sat there. One of the passengers, who had chips in her shopping bag, gave the drunk a mouthful and threatened him. My friend got out his phone and said he was calling the police so the drunk got off and we were on our way again. What fun we have LOL.

The Scurvy Dog that is my ex hasn’t communicated once this month. His wife sent an email 10 days ago, and I’ve emailed them both but so far no replies. And they wonder why the Cabin Boy gets angry with them? How many children does he have? Oh yes, just the one! I’ve checked with him, and he hasn’t had any private emails from them – they usually copy us both in. I suggested the Scurvy Dog phone now and again to talk to the Cabin Boy, but so far he hasn’t bothered. Man I can pick them! Although we did have some good times together, especially in the early days, with hind sight I should have left him a lot sooner. They say love is blind, however I think it’s also deaf, dumb, and stupid too, and whilst I date now and again, I’m not sure I’ll ever be ready to live with a man again; this last one has put me right off. On the plus side, I’ve learnt a lot about myself, especially recently, and if I ever did take the plunge again, I’d ensure I kept a certain amount of independence both personally and financially.
The weekend is half over at time of writing this, enjoy what’s left of it and have a great week.
