These past few days I wouldn’t say that I’m bored, however I have felt at a loose end. The weather has improved somewhat and whilst glorious sunshine hasn’t been much in abundance, neither has wind and rain for which I’m grateful. Since Thursday I’ve dusted and vacuumed the whole house, cleaned the bathroom, been grocery shopping, done laundry including the ironing… I’ve taken the Ship’s Dog for a good walk to the further park today, the TV is boring me, I’m almost finished yet another book and I’m definitely feeling restless. I’d phone my kid sister for a chat but the last two times I’ve called her, I’ve woken her up as she was having a nap after a bad night. She was nice about it, and we talked a while, but it does leave me feeling guilty, so I’ll wait for her to call me.

I’m still looking for part time work though I’ve widened my search now for full time work if that’s what I can get. I’ll get clobbered for tax and student loan, however some extra money for the coffers would be good and would lessen my restlessness. No news of my prescription from the neurologist. Despite him saying leave it a week, it’s now been 2 weeks and no news. I think I’ll have to see my GP and ask them to chase it up. What a drag…

I’ve been cooking quite a bit and that often calms me, and of course we get tasty food to eat. Recently I’ve made a lentil dhal – high in iron, low fat, easy, and very tasty and cheap. I’ve also made a chocolate pecan pie at my son’s request; nice enough, however I’m a bit of a traditionalist and would prefer it without the chocolate. Sunday I’m going to make a beef and ale pie; can’t wait!

With the improving weather, comes a raft of good fruit and vegetables and I bought some fantastic deep red peppers. I’ve not seen any this red in ages and they’re delicious; they went into a chicken stir fry Saturday. We’ve had a very nice pineapple, and even a coconut that was deliciously sweet. As well as eating the coconut, I also enjoy ‘braining’ it in the garden with the crowbar; great way to vent any frustrations! I really love that one of the major supermarkets sells ‘wonky’ fruit and veg. It’s often cheaper, and frankly I don’t care if my peppers aren’t a uniform size, or my pineapple is a funny shape; they taste just as good as the other fruit and veg.

The potted plants on the decking have had a good weeding and I’ve moved some around to take advantage of the better weather. Once it gets warmer, they’ll have to be moved again so I can put saucers under them. The blackberry I purchased recently is very slow to grow, however the raspberry is coming on very well and might even fruit this year at this rate. The blueberry bushes (3) are leafing nicely, and the quince is displaying flower buds already. Last year we didn’t have any fruit from it despite a ton of flowers though the ‘shock’ of the move may have caused that, it definitely led to a reduction of blueberries. The tayberry (like a raspberry on steroids!) isn’t looking so good and I wonder if I should have cut it right down before winter came. We left a small patio apple tree (2) and a cherry tree at the previous property; no room here, and I wonder sometimes if anyone cared for them or if they died once I’d left.

So, I’ve been a busy little bee, seem to have boundless energy despite not sleeping well all week, and I’m running out of things to clean, tidy, cook, and so on lol. Maybe I should start writing again...

Enjoy your weekend.
