…Or over the top? As regular readers will know, I recently moved to England from Wales. In that short time, I’ve had a check-up from the practice nurse – a necessity when joining the practice apparently, been invited to have my boobs squashed (already done this year) and now I have an invitation to have a ‘Health Check.’ This entails a 20 to 30-minute health check. What did I already have with the practice nurse? She already checked my BP, my heart rate, weight, and sugar levels. She was more than happy with my results aside from my weight which is a constant battle. As part of this Health Check, which is almost a decade late by their own reckoning, I must attend a hospital almost 2 miles away for blood tests for ‘suspected diabetes diagnosis.’ I’ve looked up symptoms of diabetes, and I don’t have a single symptom. Not one. A touch of overkill methinks. I do have a weight issue; however, I walk lots, can (almost) touch my toes and I’m quite active most days. My neck often hurts too much to bend fully to my toes, though I do get very close, closer than my son does to his toes, and he’s only in his early 20’s and is slim.

After much ruminating I’ve decided to head back to Wales for an overnight stay at my sister’s house, so we can catch up and visit a country fair where we’ll meet with our brother and his wife, all being well. We missed the fair last year as it clashed with moving my son to university, and I couldn’t bear the thought of yet more driving at that time. It’s still a lot of mileage, however the overnight stay should take some of the pressure off. I’m just hoping for a dry day, before and during, as we park in a field and I dread getting stuck. I’m hoping to buy a new handbag there as mine is looking pretty shabby. I also hope to buy some new sports shoes whilst near a large city. England is all well and good, and I can walk to quite a lot of shops, but a central (large) shopping area doesn’t seem to exist in these parts. I’d also like some new blouses which I can’t seem to buy locally. Who would have thought I’d go back to Wales for a decent shop? LMAO. There most likely is something suitable here, I just haven’t found it yet. My son will stay home, he isn’t much into country fairs, and of course he can look after the dog. Sorted! I think he’s quietly looking forward to a couple of days of being home alone with the dog.

I haven’t heard from my ex in Oz since my Mum died. They sent condolences, then all was blissfully quiet. This week, I had a missive from his wife asking for our address and phone number, again. Has it not occurred to them that if we wanted them to have it myself or my son would have notified them already? I could care less, it’s my son who doesn’t want them to know, and I’m reminded of the time, when he was younger, when he asked me to hide his passport so that his Dad could never leave with him. No idea where that came from… Apart from utilities, and health boards, only 3 people have our new address and my son jokes that it’s like being in witness protection. What an imagination he has.

Enough rambling. Enjoy the rest of the week. Hope you have nice weather; ours has been wonderful; crisp and cool, with copious amounts of sunshine interspersed with the odd shower. Lovely!
