Of late, in my part of the world, we’ve had about half inch of rain a day, every day, for the past 5 days. I know this because I have a large plant trough on the deck that I’ve taken the plants out of, and each day I’ve emptied it into a bucket, and then into the water butt. That’s a lot of rain. Especially for July.

Sunday the day started bright and sunny and I quickly climbed the rigging and put out some laundry. It was almost dry when I noticed the skies darkening. I quickly shinned up the rigging and brought down the laundry, locked the door, and the heavens opened. It was like a freaking monsoon here and the Deckhand and I quickly closed all the windows. The wind got up, and my hammock was swinging wildly. Good job I wasn’t in it. The Ship’s Dog was eyeing the rain from the safety of the glass door and quickly resigned himself to yet another day of being stuck indoors on the Ship. Honestly, with these winds, it’s a good job we have such a strong anchor.

The Deckhand has another 7 weeks on the Ship, then he’ll be pulling up his own anchor and moving out, even if only for a term at a time. OMG where did the time go? I have a few more things to buy for him, though he’s mostly ready and he can’t wait to get started on this new stage of his life. I envy him a little; university wasn’t an option for me when I was his age, and although I have a degree now, he’ll have the whole university experience at a much better age and will be able to immerse himself in it which I couldn’t do. Big changes. He’s already talking about the career he hopes to have, and that he hopes to leave the UK as soon as he can after graduating. I don’t blame him. I’d leave too, in a heartbeat.

On that note, the scurvy dog that is his Father is already emailing to try and get him to work in Oz once he’s graduated due to the great games development jobs they have there. Yeah right… Top countries, in order, are USA, UK, Canada, Japan, Germany… Google lists 10 countries, and Oz comes bottom. Besides, the scurvy dog is planning to move back to Tasmania, so what would be the point? He doesn’t miss a trick! It’ll never happen, and it’s a shame that he’s so blinded that he simply can’t see it. Man, I wish I’d made him walk the plank way back, and I mean that quite literally.

Monday I’m off out to dodge the rain, and scurvy dogs, and will top up the shopping. The Deckhand goes through so much fruit, it’s hard to keep up with him. Once he’s gone, I really will have to watch how much food I buy. When we first left my ex, I kept buying the food he liked, purely out of habit. I must watch that, and I’m planning to run down the stock in the freezer so that I can fully defrost it. I also plan to redecorate the Deckhand’s bedroom. What fun jobs I have lined up for being on my own. LOL

Have a great week
