In 2011 Juice Newton finally released "Sweet, Sweet Smile" (Newton - Young) as an extra track on the LP "The Ultimate Hits Collection". Wikipedia: "Newton's label Capitol Records was not interested in the song. Newton's manager, who was a friend of the Carpenters, was playing the demo of "Sweet, Sweet Smile" at his home while Karen Carpenter was visiting. Karen Carpenter liked the song and brought it to the attention of her brother Richard Carpenter who'd recall: "I liked it immediately...now there's one that, to me, should have done better than it did."

The Carpenters (Karen and Richard) had their only Country hit in 1978 with "Sweet, Sweet Smile" from the LP "Passage". The single peaked at number seven Easy Listening, number eight Country and stalled at number forty-four on Billboard's pop chart. "Passage" was the first Carpenters album not to reach the gold category.
