French composer and conductor Maurice Jarre wrote the music for the 1965 spectacular "Dr. Zhivago". This is "Lara's Theme" from the soundtrack. Omar Sharif and Julie Christie (Lara) starred in the David Lean epic. The motion pictiure earned five Academy Awards including best original score. Wikipedia information: "By special request of Connie Francis, Paul Francis Webster later took the theme and added lyrics to it to create "Somewhere My Love". Connie, however, retired from the project when the lyrics were presented to her because she thought of them as too "corny"."
The Ray Conniff Singers hit the next year with "Somewhere My Love (Lara's Theme)" (Jarre - Webster). This beautiful release rightly hit the top ten on Billboard's pop chart and stayed on top of the Easy Listening chart for a month.
