Homemade Sourdough Bread

15 Jan 2018 2 5 434
Here is a loaf of sourdough bread I made back on September 24th, 2013. It involves making a starter and keeping it going in your refrigerator by "feeding" it. Some people keep their starter going for years.

An interesting sunset picture I took back on October 20th, 2006, with my Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D DSLR.

Norris City ---- Parts

This is an old building downtown, five blocks from my house. It used to house the Norris City Auto Parts, but hasn't done so for over two decades. Now, it is an antiques store. Nuts!

02 Nov 2014 16 21 1036
For The Sunday Challenge group, who's theme this week was "Metallic." It said to keep the processing simple this week, so I didn't do anything to mine. It's just a scan of a black and white negative - no post-processing effects whatsoever. Camera: Minolta XD11 Lens: Minolta MD Zoom 28-70mm, @70mm Film: Kodak BW400CN black and white film Aperture: F/22 Shutter Speed: "B" (bulb) 1/2 sec. Ebenezer Methodist Church

This was the first Methodist church built in Illinois, in 1838. The picture was taken just before it was torn down in the early-1980's. It's an old scan and it was converted to black and white some time ago. Glasslight

I always wondered if a clear crystal apple would even have a shadow. Well, I found out it does. For The Sunday Challenge group, who's theme this week was shadows.

Persistence Of Granny

22 Jun 2014 11 20 709
For The Sunday Challenge group. The theme this week was to photograph items out of your prop box. I chose things out of my model props box and the items I chose were my Grandmother Harrelson's old hat and gloves. There are two notes in the picture that show these props being used.

Red, Red, I Want Red - There's No Substitute For R…

15 Jun 2014 19 22 879
This is for The Sunday Challenge group, who's theme this week was "Abstract," spotlighting the color "Red." The initial image of the mushrooms is detailed elsewhere, but suffice to say I shot them on Monday while lighting them with a tiny maglight shone through a 1970 Chevrolet Nova tail light lens. I then took the image into Adobe Photo Deluxe 2.0 and made it into the cube you see in the middle of the image. After I had the cube finished, I needed somewhere to put it. For the sunset seascape with the clear sphere, I used Bryce 5 and created a suitable background in which to meld my cube. After I had both pieces ready, I blended them using Adobe Photoshop CS2. Solar Power

08 Jun 2014 11 16 1847
This is one of those solar garden lights that draw off sunshine during the day and then turn on to glow at night. Of course, they're not this bright, but a long exposure like this when it's dark outside will make them look much stronger than they really are. It's positioned right at the bottom of the front steps to my house. For The Sunday Challenge group, who's theme this week was to use a setting on your camera you hadn't used before. I chose the "B" (bulb) setting, which I had never used before, on an old Diana-clone 120 camera. In fact, I'd only ever run one roll of film through the camera and had been meaning to use it again for some time. For those that don't know about the classic "Diana" camera - they were really really cheap plastic cameras made in Hong Kong in the 1960's and given away as prizes or sold for about .50 cents. That's right - they are super cheap and if you drop one, they might break into a thousand pieces because the plastic is so thin. As a matter of fact, I think mine melted a little on the front because it was kept in a hot car. If you look at mine in the picture below, the melted spot is just above the lens and under the viewfinder. Camera: Windsor (Diana-clone) Film: Fuji Film Neopan Acros 100 ISO 120 film Aperture: F/11 Shutter Speed: "B" (bulb) 10 minute exposure Focus Range: 4 feet to 6 feet Date: June 6th, 2014, 9.50-10.00 p.m. Location: Norris City, Illinois, U.S.A. Daylight Come And Me Wanna Go Home

Many days as I come home from working in de banana fields, I sing this little song: "Day-O, Day-ay-ay-O Daylight come and me wanna go home."

Objects In Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear

25 May 2014 7 20 534
For The Sunday Challenge group who's theme for the week was "Through The Looking Glass." I had a hectic week and couldn't come up with even a glimmer of an idea until Friday. I had a house guest staying with me all week and then a friend died unexpectedly on Wednesday. I was asked to perform the music at the funeral on Friday, so because of everything, I didn't have much time to shoot anything. I finally got some shots of the classic cars at the car show on Saturday through the side mirrors of other vehicles, but nothing I was happy with. Finally, on the way home Saturday afternoon, I thought about trying to catch the road from my passenger-side mirror. I took several, but they all tended to look alike. I felt the extra post-processing was necessary because the road itself didn't look as blurry as I thought it would. I cleaned this mirror and washed only the parts of the car that would show in the reflection because I was too tired to schlepp all the way to the car wash for a proper cleaning! Oh, the things you have to do when you're a photographer!

My Other Car Is A....

For The Sunday Challenge group's theme this week - car badges or logos. This, of course, is one of the premiere auto brands of them all. In my humble opinion, that is.
