Another section of this large mural on the sea wall in Mural Yard, Watchet, on the Somerset Coast! The whole painted wall is 45 meters long and was painted in 2016 by Pat Denis The idea was to present items from the towns rich sea faring history Other segments previously posted Here, Heritage Mural And Here! Off the Wall Sadly on a recent visit, it was clear the the sun has taken its toll and the mural has faded badly, soon only photographs will remain!

A kind of sea wall as this supports the A838 road and the causeway across the Kyle of Tongue, A sea loch in Sutherland at the very top of Scotland! The water to the right is open to the Atlantic ocean tides and elements! It is also a part of the North Coast 500 road around the top of the country! HWW!

Fog Horn!

The Fog Horn with compressed air cylinders at the Mull of Galloway, Lighthouse, the most southerly point of the Scottish Mainland, The foghorn would be operated by lighthouse keepers should seaward visibility drop below 4 miles. It overlooks the North Channel which is the strait between north-eastern Ireland and south-western Scotland. Noss Head Lighthouse is a 19th-century lighthouse near Wick in Caithness, It is located at the end of Noss Head, a peninsula on the north-west coast of Caithness which overlooks Sinclairs Bay, 18 metres (59 ft) tall with 1 lighthouse keepers cottage! Another image for Pam! A very short diversion off of the "North Coast 500 " coastal route! HWW and a large view if possible please!

Pre storm light on the Mull of Galloway lighthouse as a storm sweeps up through the Irish sea and across the Solway Firth, a few shots and time to retire to the onsite cafe! The parched and colourless grass and the dark sky made this shot ideal for B&W This is the southernmost point of Scotland. It is situated in Wigtownshire, Dumfries and Galloway, at the end of the Rhins of Galloway peninsula. The Lighthouse which sits on top of 260ft cliffs was established in 1830 and engineered by Robert Stevenson, The White round tower is 26 meters high. and was converted to electricity in 1971! HWW, and a large view recommended!

Typical midsummer low water flow through The Clachan Burn which flows across and splits the beach before it flows into Farr Bay, Sutherland, The bridge is the access to the larger section of beach! and the gate hanging below the bridge is one of what was a pair to stop cattle walking down through the burn to freedom, At the very top of the UK mainland and another stop on the "North Coast 500 Road" HFF and a good weekend, shot in 16.9 so a large view appreciated, Ta

River Naver, HWW!

River Naver and Torrisdale Beach at Bettyhill, Sutherland. The river is only 18 miles in length and flows from the peat and bog-lands due north to reach the sea at Torrisdale Bay on the wild north coast of Great Britain. Another stop on the glorious North Coast 500 run! In 16.9 format therefor a large view would be appreciated, HWW!

This Old Fog Cannon, was gifted to the area as a fog signal gun in the late 1800s before being replaced by a proper fog horn warning system! Wick inner Harbour, Caithness, Large for clarity! Wick is another stop on the North Coast 500 HBM and a great week to all!

Ben Loyal across the Kyle of Tonge. Melness, Sutherland, At the very top of Scotland a short distance off of the North Coast 500 road, Ben Loyal is composed chiefly of granite, specifically syenite, and has a distinctive shape due to the four rocky peaks, the highest of which is called An Caisteal. To the north of An Caisteal is the 712 m Sgòr Chaonasaid, to the south is Bheinn Bheag (744 m), and to the west is the ridge of Sgòr a Chèirich, 644 m at its highest point. The fourth peak in the picture is the 568 m Sgòr Fionnaich. 16.9 format, a large view perhaps!

The most North Easterly point on the British mainland is at Duncansby Head, a part of which including the Duncansby Stacks, is shown here unfortunately though a heat haze, These Great Stack towers at 60m high are some of the finest in the UK! The people with cameras bottom left of the image were photographing Puffins which breed on the 60m high cliffs, other seabirds including Fulmars, kittiewake, guiliemots, razorbills and the Skua also use these cliffs as a breeding ground, A large view may help with clarity, HFF and take care in this heat!

1000 years old?

At the very top of the country we find Castle Varrich overlooking the Kyle of Tongue, The castle walls are generally 1.4 metres (5 ft) thick, or thicker, and have been built from roughly squared blocks of metamorphosed sandstone rock of varying thickness, laid in rough courses of random depth. The stones seem to have been laid without the use of mortar, and have suffered little from weathering, considering that the building may be 1000 years old, (wikipedia) HWW ! large view recommended!

Looking North to Talmine across Tongue Bay from Strathan, Melness, Sutherland, with the waters of the North Atlantic in the distance, The area was a historic crossroads for Gaels, Picts and Vikings and the area is named after an Old Norse term which refers to a piece of land shaped like a spit or tongue. The sea loch and surrounding countryside is designated as the Kyle of Tongue National Scenic Area, HBM and a large view recommended if possible!
