Tongue Bay!

05 Jul 2025 21 48 266
Looking North to Talmine across Tongue Bay from Strathan, Melness, Sutherland, with the waters of the North Atlantic in the distance, The area was a historic crossroads for Gaels, Picts and Vikings and the area is named after an Old Norse term which refers to a piece of land shaped like a spit or tongue. The sea loch and surrounding countryside is designated as the Kyle of Tongue National Scenic Area, HBM and a large view recommended if possible!

The waters of the loch lap gently on the pebbly beach of Loch Cainaird at Ardmair, producing that soporific effect that comes from waves on pebbles. The headland is Ardmair Point and to the left of the image is the A835 road which forms a part of the "North Coast 500", Large view recommended

We have moved west away from the sand and are now down with the pebbles at Mineheads Quay West, Leave the road at the start of the green fields, and you will be walking the 630 miles (ca. 1,014 km) South West Coastal Path. Which will give you stunning coastal views while walking around the entire South West peninsula. HFF and a great weekend,,,,,,,, A large view perhaps.

With nice winter light but a bitterly cold west coast wind and little shelter, it was no surprise to find these usually popular benches unoccupied, Sea temperature looks to also be very low!
